How to Sign a PDF Online Free (Draw, Type, or Upload a Signature)

Add a legally-usable electronic signature to any PDF in your browser. Draw, type, or upload your signature — the file never leaves your device.

Printing a document, signing it with a pen, scanning it back — that ritual wastes ten minutes and a sheet of paper every single time. An electronic signature placed directly on the PDF does the same job in seconds.

Three ways to create your signature

Our Sign PDF tool lets you draw a signature with mouse or finger, type your name in a signature font, or upload a photo of your real ink signature. The signature is stored only in your own browser for reuse — the PDF itself is processed locally and never uploaded.

Placing it correctly

  1. Load the PDF and scroll to the signature line.
  2. Place the signature, then drag it into position — arrow keys nudge it precisely.
  3. Add the date field and any checkboxes or crosses the form asks for.
  4. Apply and download the signed copy.

Is an e-signature valid?

In most jurisdictions, simple electronic signatures are accepted for everyday business documents — contracts, NDAs, invoices, consent forms. Certain documents (wills, some property deeds) require notarization or qualified digital certificates, which is a different technology. When in doubt, ask the receiving party what they accept.

If the document is a form with actual input fields, the Fill PDF Forms tool is the better starting point — see our form-filling guide. For adding text or corrections beyond a signature, use the PDF editor.
